TOE-Jam Quick Start
Set, shift, and embed movie timecode in a few steps. TOE stands for Timecode Offset Embedder.
TOE-Jam 0.5.0 beta is available. Download your platform build and read the signing, compatibility and trial details. Intel Mac and Windows testers are especially welcome.
Install the beta
On Mac, extract the matching ZIP, move TOE-Jam.app to Applications and open it. Both Mac apps are Developer ID signed and notarized. On Windows x64, extract the ZIP, read README.txt and run the setup EXE if your security policy permits it. The Windows beta is unsigned and requires Microsoft WebView2 Runtime and Visual C++ x64 Redistributable. Keep security protections enabled; if installation is blocked, stop and report the message.
1. Add your movies
Drop MOV, MP4, or M4V movies onto TOE-Jam, or use Add movies. You can select several files at once. Use Folder to add a folder and enable Include subfolders when you need recursive import. macOS sidecar files are skipped automatically.
2. Choose where timecode starts
- Source timecode: use the timecode already embedded in the movie. If none exists, choose another source.
- Creation time: use the time of day from media creation metadata, falling back to the file creation date.
- Modification time minus duration: estimate the start from the file modification timestamp and movie duration.
- Custom start time: enter a start such as
01:00:00:00.
Timestamp choices let you read times as local time or UTC. File timestamps can change when movies are copied or edited; review the preview before writing.
3. Set offsets for the whole batch or selected files
With no movies selected, timecode changes apply to every movie and become the defaults for future imports. Click a row or checkbox to select one movie. Cmd-click on Mac, Ctrl-click on Windows, Shift-click for a range, or Select all lets you edit several movies together.
Choose Add or Subtract, then enter an offset as hours, minutes, seconds, and frames. The frame buttons adjust one frame at a time. Each movie previews its result at its own frame rate. Changing one setting on selected movies preserves their other settings.
Counting: Match source retains embedded drop-frame notation. Timestamp and custom starts default to non-drop. Drop-frame counting is supported at 29.97 and 59.94 fps. Offsets count elapsed frames, and timecode wraps at 24 hours.
4. Choose output and write
Save a new copy keeps source files untouched. Choose an output folder, retain subfolder structure, and optionally rename clips or add sequence numbers. These output choices apply to the whole batch, even when some files are selected. Existing output files are not overwritten.
Turning copies off replaces each original only after verification and keeps a uniquely named original backup beside it. Re-import a replaced source before processing it again. Test representative copies in your editing application before a production batch.
Review the New timecode column and choose Write timecode. The button processes the entire queue using each movie’s settings. Cancel stops the current operation; already completed files remain. Adding new movies after a completed batch clears that completed queue first.
Settings and the beta trial
TOE-Jam remembers setup choices between launches. The movie queue is not saved. Reset restores factory defaults. The seven-day beta trial starts on first launch. Once it expires, import and preview remain available, while starting a new writing batch is disabled. Resetting settings or reinstalling over the app does not restart the trial.
Timecode metadata, with your media retained
TOE-Jam embeds a timecode track; it does not burn numbers into the picture or transcode your footage. Video, audio, cover art, chapters, and camera metadata, including DJI djmd and dbgi tracks, are retained. The initial engine supports self-contained, nonfragmented MOV/MP4/M4V movies with one constant-frame-rate video and a simple untrimmed timeline. Unsupported layouts are rejected.

Activate a supplied license key
In TOE-Jam 0.5.0 or later, open Manage license, paste your beta, promotional or giveaway key and choose Activate. Each key covers two computers, Mac or Windows. Use Deactivate before moving to another computer. Internet access is required for activation and deactivation. Your movies remain on your computer. Installing an update preserves your existing trial dates.
